PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The New Brunswick Fire Department solicited the services of Manns Woodward Studios to analyze two potential urban sites for the construction of a new headquarters building. The first site, located directly across the street from the existing headquarters building was designed to provide the department with a new (3) story state-of-the-art fire station complete with (5) pull thru apparatus bays and associated support spaces, 25 workforce housing units for city teachers, nurses, and administrative personnel will be located above the station. Residential units are isolated from the fire station by innovated accoustical technologies.

The second site, located on a demolished elementary school lot, was designed to provide the department with a new (3) story 35,000 SF fire station along with an abundance of mixed-use office, retail, and housing. The final design resulted in a mixed-use facility consisting of a fully function fire department, a 3-story parking structure, 58,000 SF of retail spaces, 85 housing unites, and 28,000 SF of office space.

The department and city are currently reviewing both schemes to determine how the future project will fit into the City's capital budget and economic growth plans.
